My role as a therapist is not to provide you with “expert knowledge” but to ask questions in a way that invites deeper reflection on the stories of your life.
Welcome! My name is Megha Sundar and I am a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #133886). I am currently supervised by Mona Klausing, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (CA #101243).
I know how intimidating vulnerability can be, especially with someone new, so thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I hope this bio can provide you with a few more details and make your decision easier. I also encourage you to reach out to me at megha@monaklausing.com or 619-535-9930 and we can coordinate a quick call to determine if I am the right fit for you.
I believe that we hold multiple identities and that they influence our interactions with the world. Some of my personal identities include being first generation Indian American, LGBTQIA+ affirming, progressive, BIPOC, anti-racist, spiritual, feminist, multilingual, family oriented, eldest child, music lover, surfer, traveler, dancer, and dog lover.
I grew up around a large Indian immigrant population in the Bay Area where I navigated the challenges of being Indian in an American society. I decided to pursue therapy because of the heavy mental health stigma I witnessed in my community. We often struggled in learning how to express our emotions, felt overwhelmed by intense academic pressures, and experienced incredible dissonance navigating individualistic and collectivistic values. We also discussed ideas surrounding arranged marriages, interracial relationships, domestic violence, gender roles, queerness, and much more.
I also closely relate to children and youth. As a daughter of a preschool teacher, I have been surrounded by children my whole life. During my undergraduate years, I gained experience working with children at an elementary school and a domestic violence shelter. During my master’s program, I provided bilingual (English/Spanish/Spanglish) therapeutic services to children and youth ages 5-20 and their families. I believe children are incredibly resilient, and I’m constantly inspired by their fascinating ability to smile and play in the midst of hardship.
My chosen methods include elements of Narrative, Solution Focused, Emotion Focused, Art and Play therapies. Overall, I use a gentle, safe, and curious approach. I understand how scary and challenging life can be. I promise to hold your stories with kindness and compassion. I believe that you are the expert of your own life and have the power to enact the change you wish to see. My role as a therapist is not to provide you with “expert knowledge” but to ask questions in a way that invites deeper reflection on the stories of your life. Sometimes the messages we receive from society affect the stories we tell ourselves and steal the control we have over our lives. My hope is that we can work together to shift these narratives and regain power and agency over these stories.
I am currently welcoming appointments via telehealth. My standard fee is $80 per session and I offer college students a discounted rate of $70 per session. If you would like to schedule an appointment please reach out to me at megha@monaklausing.com or Request an Appointment. I look forward to working with you.
